YSL promo spot

A cinematic promo piece exploring the seductive energy of YSL, Y Eau De Parfum. Through practical camera techniques and intentional lighting, this experimental spot blends feedback loops and color to evoke the fragrance’s bold and mysterious character. Shot on Sony Handycam and Blackmagic cameras, edited in Premiere Pro and After Effects with custom sound design.

To set up the shoot, a perfume bottle was suspended from a wire in front of a television monitor. A Blackmagic camera was setup to capture the bottle with the screen in the background.

Next, the lighting setup was assembled. By using colored lights and a series of reflectors and diffusers I was able to illuminate the bottle and create pleasing light refractions.

A Sony Handi-Cam was used to create the feedback loop while the Blackmagic camera captured the bottle in sharp focus.

I created a short loop in Ableton Live to soundtrack the video.

Then, after a quick edit in Premier Pro, I transitioned to After Effects for color grading, wire removal, and transition effects. Here is the before and after.
